Day 1 Arrival & Cloud 9 Boardwalk
Your Siargao itinerary begins the moment you land at Sayak Airport (IAO). Direct flights operate from Clark (CRK) and Davao (DVO) via Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines, with connecting routes via Cebu. The airport is small and relaxed — bags arrive quickly. From there, it's a 45-minute transfer to General Luna and Cloud 9.
Day 1 is intentionally slow. Check in, have lunch, and let the island pace wash over you. Once you've settled:
- Walk the Cloud 9 boardwalk — a 200-metre wooden walkway over the reef, with a viewing tower at the end. Watching the surf from up top at golden hour is one of Siargao's defining experiences.
- Explore General Luna — the main village strip has excellent cafés, fresh juice bars, a handful of surf shops, and the casual, unhurried energy that makes Siargao so addictive.
- First dinner — eat at one of the beachside restaurants on Tourism Road. Try the fresh catch of the day with garlic rice.
- Airport to General Luna: 45 min by van transfer (included with Kawayan Villa Siargao)
- Best time for boardwalk: 5:00–6:30 PM (golden hour)
- Dinner recommendation: Tourism Road strip, Cloud 9 area
- Note: Exchange cash in Cebu or Clark before arriving — ATMs in General Luna can run dry
Day 2 Island Hopping — Naked, Dako & Guyam
The classic Siargao island-hopping itinerary is one of the highlights of any trip. A pump boat departs from the General Luna wharf and visits three distinct islands in half a day. Go early — the light is better, the crowds are smaller, and you'll be back by lunch.
Naked Island
A thin crescent of blinding white sand with no shade, no buildings, no facilities — just pure, open sea on both sides. It's photogenic, exposed, and best visited first before the sun peaks. Bring reef-safe sunscreen.
Dako Island
The largest of the three, Dako has a proper fishing community, rows of tall coconut palms, and a long beach dotted with simple huts. Fresh coconuts, grilled fish and cold drinks are available from the local stalls. Walk to the far end of the beach for the best views.
Guyam Island
Tiny, round, and absurdly photogenic. A ring of leaning palms, a narrow white beach, and a coral reef just offshore. The snorkelling here is excellent — bring your own mask or rent one from the boat. Most island-hopping tours end here before heading back to General Luna.
- Departure: General Luna wharf, 7:30–8:00 AM recommended
- Duration: 4–5 hours total
- Cost: ₱1,500–₱2,500 per person (shared) · Private charter available via Kawayan Villa Siargao
- What to bring: reef-safe sunscreen, snorkel mask, cash, light snacks
- Afternoon: free time — surf lesson at Cloud 9 or pool time at the villa
Day 3 Magpupungko Rock Pools
Magpupungko is one of the most extraordinary natural sites on the island — and a non-negotiable on any Siargao itinerary. Located on the far eastern coast, about 45 minutes from Cloud 9, these natural rock pools are carved into ancient volcanic rock and only accessible at low tide.
When the Pacific retreats, it leaves behind a series of crystal-clear basins — some ankle-deep, others deep enough to dive into from the surrounding rocks. The water is perfectly still, warmed by the sun, and so clear you can see every detail of the rock floor beneath. It feels like swimming in a giant natural aquarium.
Critical planning note: Magpupungko is tide-dependent. Arrive at high tide and the pools are completely submerged — there is nothing to see. Our team always checks tide tables and schedules the excursion to arrive 1–2 hours before low tide, giving guests the full experience.
- Distance from Cloud 9: ~40 km east, 45 min by motorbike or van
- Entrance fee: ₱50 per person
- Best time: low tide only — check tide tables before going
- Morning departure: recommended for best light and smaller crowds
- Combine with: a stop at Pacifico Beach on the way back
Day 4 Surfing & General Luna
By day four of your Siargao itinerary, you're ready to get in the water. Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced surfer, Siargao has the right wave for you — and Kawayan Villa Siargao's concierge team will connect you with the right coach.
- Beginners: Jacking Horse — a sand-bottomed break with gentle, rolling waves ideal for first-timers. Lessons are 2 hours with a certified local instructor, from ₱1,500.
- Intermediate: Stimpy's and Tuason Point — more shape and power, great for surfers who can already get to their feet.
- Advanced: Cloud 9 main break — the world-class hollow right that made Siargao famous. Best from July to November during peak swell season.
Spend the afternoon exploring General Luna on a rented motorbike (₱350/day). Visit the Budyong Beach area, pick up local handicrafts, and watch the sunset over the lagoon from the main road.
- Surf lesson booking: arrange through Kawayan Villa Siargao the night before
- Best surf months: July–November (peak swell) · March–June (good for beginners)
- Board rental: from ₱300/hour at the Cloud 9 boardwalk
- Motorbike rental: ₱350/day — ask the villa team for trusted suppliers
Day 5 Sugba Lagoon
Sugba Lagoon is the jewel of western Siargao and deserves a full day in your itinerary. Getting there is an adventure in itself — a tricycle to Del Carmen, then a 45-minute speedboat through winding mangrove channels, before the forest opens dramatically onto a vast emerald lagoon surrounded by karst limestone and jungle.
The lagoon covers roughly 900 hectares. Activities include:
- Swimming — calm, warm water; perfect for a long, unhurried float
- Stand-up paddleboarding — boards available to hire at the entrance
- Cliff jumping — wooden platforms at multiple heights for thrill-seekers
- Snorkelling — bring your own mask; the visibility is outstanding
- From Cloud 9: ~1h tricycle to Del Carmen + 45 min speedboat
- Entrance + boat: approximately ₱1,200–₱1,800 per person return
- Pack a lunch: Kawayan Villa Siargao can prepare a packed meal to take with you
- Full day: leave by 7:30 AM, return by late afternoon
Day 6 Sohoton Cove & Jellyfish Sanctuary
Sohoton Cove is Siargao's most remote and most awe-inspiring destination — and the centrepiece of a 7-day Siargao itinerary. Located on the neighbouring island of Bucas Grande, reaching Sohoton requires a full-day boat journey, but what you find there is unlike anything else in the Philippines.
The cove is a flooded limestone cave system draped in jungle, filled with sting-free jellyfish, and accessible only by paddling through low, dramatic rock arches in a small kayak. The light inside the caves — filtering through gaps in the rock — is extraordinary.
- Jellyfish Sanctuary: swim alongside hundreds of sting-free moon jellyfish in a clear, sheltered lagoon
- Cave paddling: kayak through flooded limestone passages with your guide
- Cathedral Cave: a vast underground chamber with shafts of natural light — one of the most photogenic spots in the Philippines
Sohoton tours depart General Luna very early (5:00–6:00 AM) and return by late afternoon. The boat journey is long but scenic. Kawayan Villa Siargao arranges full-day Sohoton tours with experienced local operators.
- Departure: 5:00–6:00 AM from General Luna
- Total boat journey: ~3 hours each way
- Cost: ₱3,000–₱4,500 per person, all inclusive
- Book in advance: Sohoton tours fill up quickly in peak season — arrange through the villa at least 2 days ahead
- What to bring: waterproof bag, reef-safe sunscreen, snorkel, cash
Day 7 Slow Morning & Departure
The last morning of your Siargao itinerary deserves to be unhurried. Have breakfast at the villa — fresh croissants and pastries from Kawayan Gourmand next door, served poolside. Take one last swim. Walk the Cloud 9 boardwalk one final time.
Sayak Airport (IAO) is small and gates close early — allow at least 90 minutes before your flight. The villa team will arrange your transfer and help with luggage.
- Transfer to airport: 45 minutes — arranged by Kawayan Villa Siargao
- Airport gates: close early — arrive at least 90 min before departure
- Direct flights: Clark (CRK) and Davao (DVO) — book via Cebu Pacific or Philippine Airlines
- Via Cebu: connecting flights available daily from Cebu (CEB)
Essential Siargao Travel Tips
A few things the guidebooks don't always tell you — from the Kawayan Villa Siargao team, who live here year-round:
- Cash is king. ATMs in General Luna are limited (BDO and BPI near the town centre) and can run out during peak weekends. Withdraw in Cebu or Clark before you fly in.
- Tides matter. Magpupungko only works at low tide. Always check before you go. Our team manages this for villa guests automatically.
- Surf season vs. dry season. Peak surf is July–November. For calmer water, island hopping, and outdoor exploration, March–May is ideal.
- Motorbike or habal-habal. The easiest way to get around is a rented motorbike (₱350/day) or a habal-habal (motorbike taxi). Tricycles are slower but cheaper for short trips.
- Book Sohoton early. It fills up fast in high season. Always arrange at least 2 days in advance.
- Eat local. The best food on the island is at the small, family-run restaurants along Tourism Road and around the General Luna market. Fresh catch of the day with garlic rice costs ₱250–₱400.
- Reef-safe sunscreen only. Siargao's reefs are protected. Bring reef-safe sunscreen — it's harder to find locally.
- Official travel info. For visa requirements, health advisories and entry rules, check the Philippine Department of Tourism before you travel.
